Drone Fly Zone Checker
Check if your property is in or near a drone flight restriction zone. Enter your postcode for an instant assessment covering airports, military zones, helipads, and prisons across Devon.
Disclaimer: This tool provides approximate guidance only, based on known flight restriction zones in Devon. Actual FRZ boundaries may have complex shapes that differ from the circular approximations shown here. Temporary restrictions for events, emergencies, or military activity are not included. Always check the official NATS Drone Assist app before flying. As a CAA-registered operator, we verify all flight permissions before every survey.
Understanding Drone Flight Zones
What the different restriction types mean for your property survey.
Airport Flight Restriction Zones
UK airports have a standard Flight Restriction Zone (FRZ) extending up to 5km from the airfield. Drones cannot fly within an FRZ without explicit permission from air traffic control. This is the most common restriction in Devon, with Exeter Airport's FRZ covering a large area east of the city.
Military Zones
Military installations like RAF Chivenor and CTCRM Lympstone have restricted airspace. These zones are strictly enforced and require military authorisation for any drone activity. The Royal Marines base at Lympstone sits between Exeter and Exmouth, affecting surveys in that corridor.
Hospital Helipads
Air ambulance helipads at hospitals like the RD&E in Exeter have small but important restriction zones. These exist to keep flight paths clear for emergency medical helicopters, which may arrive at any time without warning.
Prison Restriction Zones
Under UK law, it is a criminal offence to fly a drone within 400 metres of a prison. Devon has several prisons including HMP Exeter in the city centre, HMP Channings Wood near Newton Abbot, and HMP Dartmoor in Princetown.
Military Danger Areas
Dartmoor has several military firing ranges that create danger areas when active. These include the Okehampton, Willsworthy, and Merrivale ranges. Firing times are published in advance — when ranges are not active, drone flights may be possible with appropriate planning.
We Handle Everything
As a CAA-registered drone operator, we check all airspace restrictions, obtain necessary permissions, and file flight plans before every survey. Whether your property is in a restriction zone or not, we ensure every flight is fully legal and safe.
